Dragon Lodge is an abandoned mansion located at No. 32 Lugard Road, Hong Kong. It is one of Hong Kong’s most haunted places and it occupies some of the most valuable piece of land in the city.
Dragon Lodge has seen many owners. The first owner who built the famous property in 1920 went bankrupt, forcing it to be sold; and the subsequent owner died in the house. It is reputed that during World War II Japanese occupied the property, decapitating several Catholic nuns in the front yard. The property’s gruesome reputation made sure that it lay abandoned for decades.
However, a local Hongkonger named Dave in reddit group dedicated to urbex shared facts about the site history. He claims that his family lived on Lugard Road just near Dragon Lodge in the 1940s. At that time mansion belonged to Tommy Mun-Long’s family.
The Mun-Longs were wealthy people with half a dozen large properties and didn’t like the hassle of using Dragon Lodge as a retreat villa so from the 1950s onward they rented it out. One of the long-term residents was the Blitz family, who were there right through the 1960s. So, it means that mansion was not haunted at that time.
There was a flat below the garden section rented by a lawyer called Wimbush in the 1960s. He was later embroiled in a well publicised Carrian scandal in the 1983. His dead body was found at the bottom of his swimming pool and his death was ruled a suicide.
The ‘spooky stories’ about mansion started just after that and rumours were repeated years later by a local woman who had friends up in the area. After the 1980’s, Dragon Lodge became known as Hong Kong’s most haunted house.
No. 32 Lugard Road last changed hands in 2004 for HKD 76 million, but renovations have been thwarted by construction crews who believed the place was haunted after hearing strange noises and an unseen child crying.
Left to the elements, Dragon Lodge quickly developed the derelict facade that made it a popular site for urban explorers and ghost hunters. In 2017, renovations were made to Dragon Lodge’s exterior, but little was done to the interior. To this day, Dragon Lodge mansion has been left untouched by its current owners and it remains abandoned.
