This abandoned motorway area was a part of 21 motorway service areas in the United Kingdom and operated by the third largest motorway service area operator Roadchef. This branch opened in 1981 as the company’s motorway area. The branch was of typical Roadchef style for the era, with a flat roof and big windows facing out over the road.
This motorway service area had varying facilities. The site provided free parking, toilets and food 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In 2004, the building was destroyed by a large fire which was said to have been caused by arsonists, and has remained a derelict eyesore for passing motorists ever since. Was easy explore, It’s seen a lot vandalism over the years and has become very overgrown.
