Villages across Italy — abandoned as people left in search of work. I visited this abandoned village in the Italian countryside near Rome. An abandoned mountain village of six houses, cut off from the outside world. The history of this place starts probably in 1873. I saw the wooden board with a sign of the year inside one of the houses. At first, it was a temporary camp for shepherds and seasonal workers. Then the residents stayed here, continuing to engage in cattle breeding (2 cows and one piglet) and growing crops (buckwheat and beans). Local residents lived without electricity and gas. In the 1970s people started to use electric stoves, but living conditions remained harsh. Many villagers struggled to find a consistent source of income. Younger workers left the village to work in towns and cities.
