Kinel-Cherkassy is a village and the administrative center of the Kinel-Cherkassky district of the Samara region in Russia. It is located 110 km from Samara. Despite the status of a village, the population of Kinel-Cherkassy is over 17,000 – that is, it is actually a small town. Population: 17,252. It was founded in 1744.
An airfield was built in Kinel-Cherkassky in 1940. During World War II Soviet pilots were trained in Kinel-Cherkassy. Since 1960, the DOSAAF (Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation, and Navy) aviation training center has been created at the airport, where pilots were trained on the L-29 and MiG-17 aircraft. In the early 1990s, the training center was closed.
From 1993 to 2009 793rd Independent Helicopter Regiment was deployed in Kinel-Cherkassy with Mil Mi-8 and Mil-Mi-26 helicopters.
In 2009 Kinel-Cherkassy airfield was closed.
