Abandoned McDonnell Douglas DC-10 on top of Gate 88 Mall in Bali ABANDONED SPACES
Z-AVT’s tail section sits on top of the Gate 88 shopping mall in Bali. Accessible by an elevator straight to its inside, it was previously in service with Zimbabwe’s cargo carrier Avient.

This article is a part of the series that looks at the abandoned Boeing planes in Bali. Other articles:

This DC-10 was broken up at CGK in 2012. Some time in 2014, the tail section was bought and brought over to the rooftop of this small mall. There used to be an aviation-themed bar here, and while it closed down some time ago there are still large quantities of aviation-related equipment (engine cowls, exit doors, wing sections, etc.) scattered around. A sad fate for this trijet, however in my eyes it is still preferable to rotting away in the desert.

MCDONNELL DOUGLAS DC 10

Not far away from the famous Kuta Beach is a McDonnell Douglas DC-10 placed on the roof of the never-opened Gate 88 Mall.

To access the rooftop you can use an elevator that actually takes you inside the plane.

The aircraft was owned by different airlines. Originally purchased by British Caledonian Airways it was sold to a US company who converted it into a cargo plane.

This company sold the rebuilt plane to a cargo operator from Zimbabwe. The next known station was Jakarta where the plane was scrapped. The fuselage was transported from there to its current location.

How much does it cost?

The whole building is at the moment closed and not in use.

If you want to enter the rooftop for a close-up photo of the plane you can talk to the security guy. He will show you around for a small tip.

How to get there?

Gate 88 Mall is located at the junction of Jalan Raya Kerobokan and Jalan Raya Semer near Sunset Road.
